Winning after three hours of battle, and doing it in front of the home crowd, Carolina Orsi shares her excitement the day after her win with Martina Fassio against Sofia Saiz and Marta Talavan in the first round of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1.
“I really wanted to get through the round”, she says at the media day at Allianz Cloud. “As we played, the stands filled up and it made everything even more exciting. It was a tough match, but we train for moments like these, believing you can always win. In the third set, we pumped each other up — Marti said a couple of really cool things that gave me energy. At that moment, we were more of a team than ever. We were down two breaks in the third set, but we stayed united, and I think it was our attitude that made the difference”.
Martina Fassio, who really cared about this match, adds with a smile: “There’s always some pressure before a match, and this time a little more because I wanted Carolina to win at home. I’m really happy we managed it. We stayed united, more like a team, more focused. What I said to Caro? That stays between us — it’s just glances and understanding that only our team shares.”
Playing with Fassio, whom she teamed up with again at the beginning of September, Carolina is enjoying the best moment of the season after a tough period with Nuria Rodriguez. “Even if the results weren’t coming, I still felt good. With Martina, we immediately found a good connection. Of course, the more you win, the better you feel”.
The Milan tournament, moved to October compared to last season, also offers better playing conditions. “Last year we came from Mexico, and Milan was the final tournament”, Orsi continues. “Now it’s a better time: we arrive in shape, it’s warm, and the play is great. It’s a fast court, really fun, I like it a lot”. Martina adds: “You can feel the seasonal change, and this time we came from European tournaments. Milan like this? I like it even more”.
Orsi’s goals are clear: “First, to maintain this level and stay in the top thirty. I’d like to reach a few more quarterfinals, maybe a semifinal — in Madrid we were very close. Finishing the year in the top 25 would be a big achievement”.
Finally, a thought on the season and the busy schedule: “There are so many tournaments and a lot of travel”, Orsi admits. “It’s tiring, but it’s part of growing in the circuit. I love playing, I love traveling — it doesn’t weigh on me”. Martina agrees: “We’re always traveling, but we enjoy it. For us, every tournament is a chance to grow, and we have a lot of fun”.
