Momo González and Fran Guerrero are one of the most interesting new pairs on the international circuit, and at the Allianz Cloud they started with a clear double 6-3 win against Josè Jimenez and Maxi Sanchez Blasco in the first round.
“Fran is a player I’ve always liked, even since last year. I told him that one day I wanted to play with him,” explained Momo. “When I split with Sanz, I immediately thought of him because I like his style of play and I think he can help me a lot.” Their journey as a team has just begun, and the excitement is high: “Even though we haven’t had much time to train together, we’ve already played some good matches at a high level. It’s important to feel comfortable with your partner — if there’s trust, everything becomes easier. We have many weeks ahead together, so I’m happy to feel so good with him.” Positive feelings for Momo, who is ready to shine in Milan, where last year he reached the semifinals: “I feel really good on these courts. Compared to last year, they’re even faster because the October weather helps,” added the player from Antequera. “The crowd, however, hasn’t changed — it’s always wonderful to play here.”
Great connection with Italy also for Fran Guerrero, one of the big surprises at the BNL Italy Major last June, where he reached the semifinals: “We really want to do well here in Milan because it’s a very important tournament,” said the 2003-born player from Malaga. “I’m happy to play with Momo, who has a more classic style compared to some of my other partners. We haven’t had much time to train together, but I’m sure that with him I can grow as a player.”
