Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia’s last taboo in an impressive 2024? Winning a tournament in Italy. After losing in the finals in the Major in Rome and the P2 in Genova, Arturo and Agustin will still have a chance at the Allianz Cloud in Milano, where both the Spanish and the Argentine will play their first final. In the first men’s semifinal of the Milano Premier Padel P1, Coello and Tapia overcame Momo Gonzalez and Edu Alonso (8) 6-3 6-3 in one hour and 9′, ending an extraordinary week. For Coello and Tapia, however, it was their 44th consecutive victory in a series that began after a defeat against Chingotto and Galan exactly five months ago, on 7 July in Genova. Tomorrow, the hunt for the 14th title of the year, the ninth in a row.
After the match, however, Coello found a way to make one of his little fans happy, who promised himself ‘next partner’ with a poster: while waiting, Arturito gave him a jersey. “It has been a positive season also thanks to the level of our opponents – he said –. Numbers can always be improved and we will do everything we can to continue this winning streak next year as well”. “We are happy with our level, we didn’t let them get into the game – added Tapia –. For tomorrow it doesn’t matter how tired we are, it’s a final and we will play it to the best”.
A semi-final, that between Coello and Alonso, which had begun with a basketball match in the players’ gym but then continued on the Allianz Cloud court, with Momo and Edu starting with a break before the comeback of the number 1 seeded players. Break and counterbreak also in the opening of the second set: ahead Coello and Tapia, reaction from Gonzalez and Alonso. The break that brought Coello and Tapia to 3-2, however, was a sentence.
