Montiel and Patiniotis fight hard but bow out in the first round. Baldi-Aima miss out on the main draw

Alvaro Montiel and Aris Patiniotis saw their Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 campaigns come to an end in the first round. Both Italians have been selected for the FIP World Cup, which will take place in Doha from 2 to 7 November. They fought hard on the centre court but were unable to take their respective matches to a third set.

Partnering Dani Santigosa, Montiel lost 6-4 7-6 in one hour and 56 minutes to 18-year-old Spaniard Manuel Castaño and compatriot Pol Hernandez. Patiniotis, who entered the draw on a wild card, also bowed out, losing 7-5 7-5 to Arnau Ayats and Emilio Chamero. The pair came through the qualifying rounds and will now face world number ones Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who arrive in Milan on the back of three consecutive titles in Paris, Rotterdam and Düsseldorf. In the afternoon, Denis Perino and Facundo Dominguez also bowed out, losing 6-2 6-3 to José Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra.

Today’s schedule also featured the four decisive matches for qualification for the women’s main draw, which gets underway tomorrow. Caterina Baldi and Clarissa Aima were beaten 6-3 6-1 in 57 minutes by Amanda Lopez and Camila Fassio (4).
