Following Tapia-Coello’s debut in the men’s draw yesterday, the Allianz Cloud centre court welcomed the women’s world No. 1 pair, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, to a huge round of applause. Their opening match was flawless: they defeated Noa Canovas and Bea Caldera 6-0, 6-3 in just one hour and three minutes In the quarter-finals, they will face Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio, who defeated Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno 6–3, 7–5. Triay and Brea have already won the Milan P1 in 2023. Last year, however, they retired in the semi-finals due to a physical issue affecting the Spanish player, missing out on a meeting with Claudia Fernandez and Bea Gonzalez. This year, their goal is to claim the title they were unable to compete for in the previous edition.
In a potential semi-final in the top half of the draw, Triay and Brea could face Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero, barring any surprises. In the opening match of the day, Sanchez and Ustero defeated Lucia Martinez and Araceli Martinez 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, they will take on padel legend Ale Salazar, making her final appearance in Milan, and Aranzazu Osoro, who ended the run of Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodriguez with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on Court 1. Sanchez and Ustero have been in outstanding form since the summer break, winning the Paris Major and the Rotterdam P2, as well as reaching the final of last week’s Düsseldorf P2.
