The Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 got under way on court today, alongside the draw ceremony, with the start of the men’s qualifying rounds. The opening day saw important wins for three Italian pairs, all now one victory away from reaching the main draw. Facu Dominguez and Denis Perino defeated Argentine legend Miguel Lamperti and Octavio Alvarez in straight sets (7-6, 7-5). Tomorrow, they will face Spaniards Iago Fuertes and Ferran Insa, who beat Salva Oria and Agustin Gutierrez today, for a place in the next round. Lorenzo Di Giovanni and Giuseppe Fino also secured an all-Italian victory, beating Pablo Sanchez and Nacho Archieri 6-4, 7-6. Their next opponents will be Ramiro Pereyra and Jose Solano Marmolejo. Italian-Argentine pair Emiliano Iriart and Mauro Salandro, who defeated Matteo Sargolini and Matteo Rosingana 6-3, 6-3, will take on Manuel Aragon and Roland Pons. Sunday’s matches at Get Fit on 11 October will begin at 9 am. Also in focus is the clash between Maxi Sanchez and Lucho Capra and Thomas Leygue and Jesus Moya.
The women’s qualifying rounds will also begin tomorrow, no earlier than 2 pm. Two players recently selected to represent Italy at the upcoming Padel World Cup in Qatar will be in action. Carlotta Casali, partnering Nerea Guerra, will face fellow Italian Lorena Vano and Spain’s Carmen Castillon. The other is Martina Parmigiani, who will partner Germany’s Victoria Kurz against Amanda Lopez and Camila Fassio. Italian wild cards Matilde Minelli and Camilla Livioni will face Marina Lobo and Marta Arellano tomorrow. Also entering directly in the second qualifying round is a pair already assured of representing Italy at the World Cup in Qatar: Caterina Baldi and Clarissa Aima.
