The lights are on at the OYSHO Milano Premier Padel P1. While the main draw is set to begin on Monday 12 October at the Allianz Cloud, the weekend is dedicated to qualifying, which will take place at GetFit. With both the men’s and women’s draws having been made this morning, 17 Italian players are hoping to make it through the two preliminary rounds.
WOMEN While Giulia Dal Pozzo, Carolina Orsi and Giorgia Marchetti are already in the main draw, the other five Italian players selected by Marcela Ferrari for the World Cup in Doha (2-7 November) will compete in qualifying. Clarissa Aima and Caterina Baldi (photo) will face Aida Martinez and Nati Lopez Diaz (7), with a potential all-Italian clash in the second round against Martina Parmigiani, who will make her Milan debut alongside Germany’s Viktoria Kurz against Amanda Lopez and Camila Fassio (4). Another all-Italian clash could be on the cards if Emily Stellato and Giulia Sussarello — both also selected for Qatar — get past Julia Polo and Ana Dominguez (6), while Elsa Terranova, playing alongside Angelina Neizvestnaya, would need to do the same against Noemi Aguilar and Claudia Escacena (2). There will be an all-Italian match right in the first round: Lorena Vano, alongside Carmen Castillon, will take on Carlotta Casali, who is partnering Nerea Guerra. Wild cards Matilde Minelli and Camilla Livioni have been drawn against Marina Lobo and Marta Arellano (5).
MEN Denis Perino and Facundo Dominguez are the number 2 seeds in the men’s qualifying draw. Their campaign begins with a clash against padel legend Miguel Lamperti, who is partnering fellow Argentine Octavio Alvarez. Two wild cards were announced during last Wednesday’s press conference: Giuseppe Fino and Lorenzo Di Giovanni will make their debuts against Ignacio Archieri and Pablo Sanchez. If they win, they could face number 1 seeds José Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra. Meanwhile, Matteo Sargolini and Matteo Rosingana have been drawn against an alternate pair. Former world number one Maxi Sanchez, partnering Lucho Capra, will also be chasing a place in the main draw.
