Momo Gonzalez and Italy, a love that continues. “Here I win and the fans love me”. Tomorrow the semi-final with Coello and Tapia

Jeronimo Gonzalez, known to everyone as Momo, and Italy, a great feeling. One year ago, at the Allianz Cloud, paired with Javi Garrido, he was the protagonist of one of the most beautiful matches of the Milano Premier Padel P1, the quarter-final lost to Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, but in 2024 it went even better. Victory in the FIP Platinum in Cagliari and, immediately afterwards, also in Sardinia, the gold medal in the FIP European Padel Championships. It was in the FIP Platinum on the island that the pair was born with Edu Alonso, who reached the semifinals at the first Premier Padel tournament played together (in Finland) and repeated in Egypt, in NewGiza. After two semi-finals in a P2, here is the first for Momo and Edu in a P1, in Milan. Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas retired due to an injury suffered by the Argentine in the third set from an X3 exit by Alonso: an injury that opened the doors to the semifinals for Gonzalez and Alonso against Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, but above all they gave Momo another page to write of his relationship with our country.

“I have a good feeling with the Italian fans and with Italy – admitted Momo –. I write with the marker in the calendar when it comes time to play here. And then there is a special public here: I have very good memories at the centre court against Galan and Lebron two years ago but also against Coello and Tapia last year. I hope to go on in the tournament to spend even more time with you”.

If Gonzalez and Alonso are the new faces at the top of the draw, Coello and Tapia are a guarantee of continuity. Undisputed dominators of the season (13 titles in total and 43 consecutive victories), Arturo and Agustin will be able to take the court on the day when five months will have passed since their last defeat, again in Italy, in the final of the P2 in Genova, when the 6-1 6-1 suffered on 7th July by Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan opened a series that seems to know no end. Also at the Allianz Cloud, as happened a week ago in Mexico, Arturo and Agustin were forced to play the third set: thanks to Paquito Navarro and Pablo Cardona (5), able to hold out for two hours and 8′ and to find themselves several times during the match ahead by a break, as at the start of the first set (with balls for the double break) or at the opening of the second set, then brought home by Paquito and by a Cardona who closes the Milano Premier Padel however with the certainty of a place in the Barcelona Finals but author of two errors that cost the decisive break at 4-2 in the third set.

After a long battle, then, it was again Coello and Tapia who came out on top with the score of 7-5 4-6 6-3, but the fans also thanked the defeated players, with Paquito going around the ‘pista’ in turn thanking the Milano fans in a difficult week after the death of his mother. On the sidelines, his father was also there, giving Paquito strength but also receiving it from his son.
