Her tournament ended in the quarterfinals, after a fantastic battle alongside Marta Ortega against Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, but there was still plenty to smile about for Tamara Icardo on her birthday. The world No. 10 turned thirty right in the middle of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1, on the same day as a crucial match for her and her partner. That didn’t stop her, though, from enjoying a few joyful moments surrounded by her team and all the people supporting the players inside the Allianz Cloud.
It was actually the tournament organizers who surprised her during a break in the players’ lounge, bringing her a personalized cake complete with a candle and a heartfelt “Happy birthday to you” from everyone present. Surprised but overjoyed, Tamara had a small taste and posed for a photo with her whole team — Martita, and coaches Maxi Grabiel and Juani Mieres — before refocusing 100% on the match she was about to play. And even though the result wasn’t what she hoped for, she’ll take away a truly special day in a magical place that made her feel right at home.
