Arce-Lijó and Garcia-Barahona surprises in the quarter-finals. And Friday we’re in love…with padel

The elimination of Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas in the second round of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 opened up the draw. And, in the lower half, Javi Garcia and Javier Barahona did well to get in: beating Pol Hernandez and Guille Collado in the last match of the day, the Spaniards secured a place in the quarter-finals against Martin Di Nenno and Leo Augsburger, who continued their run by beating Miguel Lamperti and Juani De Pascual in the evening with a score of 7-6 7-5. But there was another surprise in the lower half of the main draw, with Maxi Arce and Pablo Lijó defeating Lucas Bergamini and Javi Leal, the number 8 seeds: after losing the first set 6-0, Arce and Lijó (who, starting from the qualifiers, had already beaten the Brazilian in Madrid, when he was paired with Paquito Navarro) turned the match around, winning 0-6 7-6 6-4. Tomorrow they face Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, who struggled to get through the round of 16, beating Edu Alonso and Juan Tello 6-4, 7-5. Everything is going according to plan at the top of the draw, with the morning session starting at 9 a.m.: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) against Jon Sanz and Paquito Navarro (5), Momo Gonzalez and Fran Guerrero (7) against Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk (3). Premier Padel chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi will also be attending the afternoon matches at the Allianz Cloud.

WOMEN The top eight seeds will compete in the quarter-finals of the women’s draw. It took Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay (1) just 58 minutes to eliminate Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio (6-2 6-1): tomorrow’s match against Marta Ortega and Tamara Icardo (5) is one to watch, which will cross paths in the upper half with the quarter-final between Ale Alonso and Claudia Jensen (6) against Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez (3), who were victorious against Rufo/Castelló and the pair formed by Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno, respectively, who ended their run together in Milan. In the lower half, which will open the day, Ale Salazar and Martina Calvo (7) will face Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez (2), with both pairs needing a third set against Orsi/Fassio and Rodriguez/Canovas. At 12 noon, on court number 1, Andrea Ustero and Sofia Araujo (4) will face Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda (8).
