The stars of world padel are all in Italy, ready to make their debuts at the Allianz Cloud – on Wednesday in the men’s draw and on Thursday in the women’s – as the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 gets into full swing. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who will face qualifiers Arnau Ayats and Emilio Chamero, are chasing their fourth consecutive title after triumphs in Paris, Rotterdam and Düsseldorf. Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, meanwhile, are looking to defend their 2025 title, beginning with an evening match against Portuguese brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus. While everyone awaits the debuts of the leading names – Wednesday will also mark the Milan debut for Juan Lebron/Leo Augsburger and Franco Stupaczuk/Jon Sanz, the latter finalists in Rotterdam and Düsseldorf – Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno (5) beat David Gala and Enzo Jensen 6-3 6-3. Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo had to work harder for their victory, beating Nacho Piotto and Javi Barahona 4-6 6-3 6-2, while Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal enjoyed a more straightforward debut, defeating Alvaro Cepero and Andres Fernandez Lancha 6-3 6-2. Mike Yanguas and Pablo Lijó, a new pairing formed following Coki Nieto’s injury, recovered from a difficult first set to beat Javi Ruiz and Jose Luis Gonzalez 7-6 6-2.
WOMEN On the opening day of the women’s main draw, Giulia Dal Pozzo and Carolina Orsi flew the Italian flag high in Milan. Dal Pozzo, already a semi-finalist at the Rome Major, teamed up with Nuria Rodriguez to win the all-Italian derby in straight sets, beating Giorgia Marchetti and Lara Arruabarrena 6-0 6-3. The victory earned them a prestigious round-of-16 clash against Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro, who recorded the same score against Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova. Orsi, playing alongside Patty Llaguno, came from behind to beat Sofia Saiz and Marta Talavan 4-6 6-3 6-2. The biggest surprise of the day was the 4-6 6-4 7-5 victory for Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio over seventh seeds Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso.
